A good number from all branches participated in the work weekend and shareholder meeting up at Shang. This was the first time we scheduled it in November, just before Thanksgiving. Ingrid and Victor's family were coming up to spend the holiday together, and that was an especially good incentive to pitch in. Ingrid, Victor, Sophia, Peter C. and Peter W., Katie, Randy, and friend, Ted, attended and took care of a number of seasonal tasks. Harvesting the Hachiya persimmons was the first order of business to prevent the bear from grabbing them and injuring the tree. There were a lot of persimmons! All distributed to whoever could use them!
Other tasks included cutting up large lumber along the roads, and stacking the smaller pieces by the wood shed--this was done mostly by Peter C, Peter W, Victor, Randy, and Ted. Sorting items by the collapsed lean-to in the corral continued, and piles were made for hauling. Sophia did a great deal of pruning of the wisteria above the trellis. Because it was raining, a lot of team effort was put into simply doing a much-needed deep cleaning of the house. Katie, Sophia, and Ingrid did a thorough cleaning of the back porch--floors, walls, plexi-glass panels (both sides), plastic bed covers, and all furniture. It even got a make-over with some furniture moved around--Sophia's idea to rotate one of the beds is a nice improvement! Katie did a thorough cleaning of the third-floor, too. Peter W. focused on the windows in the main bedroom and in Grandma's room, which badly needed deep cleaning of the glass, frames, and surrounding walls. Next time you visit, be sure to enjoy and appreciate the sparkling house (while it lasts)!
There are probably more tasks we can add to our list of accomplishments, and pictures, too! If you have any pictures, send them to Katie, and they can be added to this blog post.
It was especially nice to gather around the table and fire, sharing stories of Shang and pitching in together, just like the old days. That's something to be grateful for.

NATURE NOTE: Nearly endangered California newts were migrating in droves (hundreds?), from the lower road and gate, past the house, up the hill towards the old pool? This was on the Friday, November 17th. No other newts were seen over the weekend. Still, this is a good sign of their vitality and overall healing of the land since the fires. California newts
