Shang Fall 🍂 Work Weekend 2026

A big thank-you to everyone who came out for Shang Fall Work Weekend 2026!

Peter C, Peter W, Dan U, Beck, Scarlett, Dan B, Cole, Victor, Owen, Rachel, Katie, and Randy all pitched in to help keep Shang in good shape and move a few projects forward.

We made great progress on a variety of fall chores. The crew tackled road trimming and hauled brush to the chipper piles, stacked firewood in the shed, sorted and hauled items from the corral, and cleared shrubs and saplings around the upper tank. Some housecleaning got done, too, helping freshen things up for the season ahead.

We also took some time to go over how to use the new fireplace insert, and reviewed the recent work on clearing the dam and improving road access around the lake. In addition, Peter C had installed a new fire hose next to the shed in the corral, pictured below. It’s always good to get everyone up to speed on what’s been done and how things are working.

Looking ahead, we talked about some upcoming projects, including installing new fire-resistant siding on the house and figuring out what to do about the garage door. Since the garage area was built in stages over the years, the door and jamb have become a bit wonky. Replacing the door and jamb will likely need to be part of the siding project, so there’s some planning ahead to do!

We were also delighted to have Allan join us for dinner. It was a really nice evening, catching up with everyone around the table, sharing stories, and enjoying the time together. Those moments are every bit as important as the work itself.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who made time in their busy lives to come to Shang and pitch in. So much gets accomplished when everyone lends a hand, and it’s wonderful to keep this tradition going. We appreciate you all and look forward to the next gathering at Shang!

Until next time! 🍁
